This week we'll start by watching Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee (2007). The film gives the American Indian perspective on “the winning of the West,” depicting the various ways American Indians resisted and how the United States government alternated between a policy of cultural assimilation and attempted extermination. We'll end the week by taking a critical look at the Indian boarding schools set up by the U.S. government, particularly the Carlisle School in Pennsylvania.
